Holy Grill Director, Tonia Causey, met with a group of regular Holy Grill volunteers during a visit to our church on February 11. Her visit was part of a current initiative of the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge, which sponsors the daily meal. The purpose of her visits is to learn more about the churches and congregations that volunteer at the Holy Grill and to thank volunteers for their service. During her visit she expressed her appreciation for our long-time and ongoing service to the Holy Grill, and also thanked Kids Café volunteers who organized the 2108 Annual Christmas gift donations and party. Kids Café is an adjunct program of the Holy Grill, which she also directs. The Holy Grill was started as the first program of the then- Federation of Churches and Synagogues the year after its founding in 1986, and was organized to serve residents in the high-poverty area of Zion City in North Baton Rouge, and has served the meal continuously since its inception. Tonia Causey has served as director and cook for the Holy Grill for twenty-nine years. Volunteers from our church have served the Holy Grill since its inception, and for almost ten years have served for a week twice a year in rotation with other member congregations. Members of our church have also provided gifts for the Kids Café Christmas event for more than twenty years. Attendees expressed their appreciation to Tonia Causey for her dedicated service and found the “Tea With Tonia” session informative in learning more about the Holy Grill program and the Interfaith Federation. Our second service at the Holy Grill for this year will be May 20 – 24.

Save the Date: The Annual Sounds of CommUNITY Concert will be held on Sunday, May 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church.
