Little Sundays of Surprises (Age 3- Grade K)

The Rainbow Connection: I Believe in Me

This class explores what each child appreciates and is proud of about themselves. We will read I Believe in Me: A Book of Affirmations by Connie Bowen, and make “I Believe in Me” pictures.

Big Sundays of Surprises (Grade 1-6)

UU Super Heroes: Lydia Maria Child (1802-1880)

The children will learn about a famous Unitarian abolitionist, and hear how sometimes even well respected people have a hard time doing the right thing.

Sparks Preschool/Flames (Age 3 – Grade 1)

Creating Home: Hearth and Home

This week the children will hear a Native American story of Coyote and fire that emphasizes the warmth needed by all humans. The children will retell the story with finger puppets, and make a fruit “candle” for a snack.

Blazes (Grades 2-3)

Free to Believe: We Have a Right to Vote

This lesson helps children understand that voting gives us a voice in making important choices. The children will experience voting for something, and learning about Susan B. Anthony, an important Unitarian from the past.

Mysteries (Grades 4-5)

Harry and UU: Arithimancy

This week’s class is about Arithimancy, the study of divination through numbers. The children will also begin working on the Animal Cruelty Horcrux.

Questioners Middle Youth (Grades 6-7)

Traditions with a Wink: Hymn #38 Dona Nobis Pacem

In this class, Middle Youth become familiar with this traditional Latin canon. The youth begin to understand that songs are an important part of a worship service.

Passages (Grade 8)

Coming of Age: How UU’s Make a Difference

This week the youth will learn how congregation members are influenced by their religious beliefs to take action for peace and justice.

Seekers Senior Youth (Grades 9-12)

Neighboring Faiths: Visit to a Mosque

Later in the afternoon the youth will visit the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge.
