Little Sundays of Surprises (Age 3- Grade K)

The Rainbow Connection: Being Different is OK

This session explores the values of being our selves and accepting one another. The class will read the book Calvin Can’t Fly: the Story of a Bookworm Birdie by Jennifer Berne, and make our own Calvin as a craft.

Big Sundays of Surprises (Grade 1-6)

What Connects Us?: From Anger to Kindness

This session looks to the third Source of Unitarian Universalism, “Wisdom from the world’s religions which inspire us in our ethical and spiritual life.” The class will hear a Buddhist story about how to handle their anger, and will be empowered to recognize and manage their anger.

Sparks Preschool/Flames (Age 3 – Grade 1)

Wonderful Welcome: The Gift of Stewardship

This sessionwill introduce stewardship as the idea that everyone in the congregation is responsible for its well being through financial donations and volunteer commitments. It will guide the children to make the connection between a generous congregation and its ability to welcome others.

Blazes (Grades 2-3)

Super Heroes of the Bible: Joseph is Sold Into Slavery

The children will gain a feeling for the environment of the Joseph legend. They will discuss sibling rivalry and feelings about favoritism and “show offs.”

Mysteries (Grades 4-5)

Harry and UU: Charms

This week the class will be practicing several charms and will be talking about why some people want to ban Harry Potter books.

Questioners Middle Youth (Grades 6-7)

Riddle and Mystery: The Future and Me

This week the program poses the Big Question "What Should I Do With My Life?” The session will help the youth think about their own long range and short-term goals and plans, and expand their understanding of and skill at making decisions.

Passages (Grade 8)

Coming of Age: Rituals of Our Faith

This week the Passages youth will participate in identifying rituals in UU worship services and other rituals of the congregation. They will analyze the role ritual plays in worship and appreciate the role the worship plays in congregational life.

Seekers Senior Youth (Grades 9-12)

Neighboring Faiths: Integrating Our Experiences with Judaism

This week the Senior Youth will explore thoughts and feelings about the ways Jews practice their faith, understand how Judaism guides value formation and behavior, and discover how Jewish beliefs and values can inform us as Unitarian Universalists.
