"...All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well…" - from "Revelations of Divine Love" by Julianof Norwich (d. 1416)

I am pleased to report that we have had a very successful 2012 operating budget fund drive.  Even in these hard economic times, our church membership has increased our total pledges for 2012 by 11% over last year, and the board approved a balanced 2012 budget, which was to be submitted to the church membership for approval at the Congregational Meeting on Sunday, January 29th at 12:45 pm after the second service.  Of course, as I write this, I don't actually know the outcome of that vote, because the congregational meeting is scheduled after the deadline for this February newsletter, but based on the diligence of our church leaders and the membership response to our operating budget fund drive, I feel the words of Julian Norwich are also mine, "...all shall be well..."

I want to say thank you to the Finance and Stewardship committee chairs and committee members, the staff, board members, the operating budget contact volunteers, and you the membership for your hard work and generous support for the ongoing work of our church.   I note from my several years of service on the board, that your church’s leadership and staff is a devoted, loyal and thrifty bunch, and take great care in managing our church’s financial affairs.

The board and the planning committee are now busy gearing up to prepare for the implementation of a Capital/Growth Fund Drive during the latter half of 2012.   The board has called a Congregational Meeting for Sunday February 26th, 2012 at 12:45 pm.  At that meeting, a Strategic Plan Update Report will be given, and congregational approval of the updated plan will be put to a membership vote.  The memberships involvement and support of the strategic plan and Capital/Growth Fund Drive are critical to the realization of our goals to expand staffing, improve, update and expand our facilities, and provide for additional involvement in the larger community of Baton Rouge as a Unitarian-Universalist congregation.

But remember, not everything is dollars and cents around here, we also deal in matters of the heart, wonder, and struggle with the evils, big and small, that get in the way of us helping each other to be better persons, and making this a better world.  Consider, "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts. “ - Albert Einstein (d. 1955).

Our next board of trustees meeting is scheduled to be held in the church office at 7:15 pm on Tuesday February 7, 2012.  Interested members are welcome to attend.  If you have a question or concern, or need to contact me directly, please email me at michael_hebert@bellsouth.net or call 225-931-6270.
