UCBR Day for Girls Team

The EBRLA UCBR Days for Girls Team will meet to work on making sustainable feminine hygiene kits.  Interest in being part of this Social Justice effort received a strong, multi-generational response from our congregants.  In an effort to encourage community building during our meeting time, a simple supper will be provided for participants.

Please chat with us if you are interested in gathering information, donating sewing machines, fabrics or supplies, or in joining the UCBR DfG Team. Questions? Marcia Shannon at mlshannon2012@gmail.com.

Every Girl. Everywhere. Period. Around the world, girls and women resort to using rags, mattress stuffing, banana leaves, feathers, and even cow dung to manage their menstruation.  Days for Girls provides a safe alternative that girls can count on month after month—along with vital health education. An award-winning, nonprofit organization, Days for Girls International is changing the status quo through quality menstrual care solutions, health education, and income generating opportunities. In less than 10 years, DFG has reached more than one million women and girls in over 125 countries on six continents.

Turning periods into pathways. The UCBR Days for Girls Team is currently completing work on sixty (60) beautiful, washable, and long-lasting feminine hygiene kits. In order to pack our kits, the Days for Girls Team needs plastic bags. Please consider donating a box of Ziploc Freezer bags. Because the kits are standardized, we can accept only one-gallon, zipper type (non- tab) FREEZER BAGS.  A table will be in Fellowship Hall to collect donations.

We invite interested volunteers (both sewing and non-sewing) to participate in one of the four workdays scheduled in August. Feel free to arrive late &/or leave early if necessary. We encourage volunteers to RSVP, but advance notice is not required. Team leaders provide a light meal at the start of each session.
