In this session the children will become aware of the story of the birth of Jesus and will practice how to be patient while waiting for a holiday to unfold.

Big Sundays of Surprises (Grade 1-6)

Timeless Themes: Joseph and the Dreams

The class will think about forgiveness for wrong-doing, and learn more of the Biblical story of Joseph.

The class will talk about Christmas as the birthday of Jesus, and about the significance of lights, evergreens, and gifts during this season.

Flames (Grades K-1)

Holidays and Holy Days: St. Lucia’s Day

The children will experience the Swedish custom of the candle-crowned Lucia maiden who heralds the winter solstice and the arrival of Christmas.

Blazes (Grades 2-4)

Holidays and Holy Days: Posadas – Christmas in Mexico

This lesson will introduce the familiar Christmas story of Mary and Joseph seeking the inn through the Mexican custom of playing it out as “street theater.”

Questioners Middle Youth (Grades 5-7)

Race to Justice: Lights, Camera, Action

The Middle Youth continue working on their media project about racism in our community.

Passages (Grades 8-9)

Coming of Age: Stillness, Silence & Meditation

The Passages youth will experience different methods of meditation as a spiritual practice. They will also practice their worship service.

Seekers Senior Youth (Grades 10-12)

Virtue Ethics: Loyalty

The Senior Youth will discuss a dilemma that calls for loyalty and examine their own history of being loyal.
