Community Concerts
Singer, songwriter, comedian, Roy Zimmerman returns to our church on Friday, February 10 at 7:30. This concert will be held in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea and munchies. Frequent guests New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus held the 2011 Holiday Concert on December 17, Saturday, 7:30 PM with audience and Chorus member favorites from 28 previous holiday concerts titled Our Favorite Things. A CD of these selections is available for sale on the NOGMC web site. .
The choir has participated in InterFaith activities for several years. We hosted a Mini-Choral-Fest with two other UU churches in Southern Louisiana, and sang for the district fall conference in 2006. The Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Recorder Society rehearses regularly at the church and provides special music for our Sunday services several times a year. The Lagniappe Dulcimer Society also rehearses regularly and provides occasional special music. Our sanctuary provides a stage for folk concerts and chamber concerts as well as the New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus concerts during the year.
We have twice hosted Roy Zimmerman, Singer, Songwriter. Roy Zimmerman writes fiercely funny songs about ignorance, war and greed. His songs, combining satire to the struggle for Peace and Social Justice, are heard on NPR, PRI, Air America and Sirius Radio. We hosted singers songwriters Jim Scott along with James Durst, and most recently, Bluegrass singer Claire Lynch. We have also heard the Greater Baton Rouge Childrens Chorus, directed by Jennifer Ellis.
