The Music Program at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge is dedicated to providing heartfelt and transcendent music for the worship services. In an effort to promote appropriate music and musical activities for all generations who participate in our church community, the program continues to grow and change.
Music Director Ila H. Stoltzfus directs the adult choir which has a membership of about 30. The choir as a group sings two Sundays a month and members of the choir assist with other services by providing special small ensemble music. The Music Director's duties also include coordinating the total program to insure variety as well as a balance or styles of music heard in the Sunday services during the year. The Music Director along with several pianists in the church provides special music or accompanies vocalists and instrumentalists for special music. The Hand Bell Ensemble, directed by Sally Wood, rings special music several times during the year. The Music Director works with the Senior Minister Steve Crump to provide music that complements the spoken words of the services and to create a unified worship experience. Members of the music committee assist with the overall program, communicating to the church board and council about events and scheduling.
Ila is an active member of the Unitarian Universalists Musician's Network.
