Hogwarts 2010 School of Magic & Fun!

HW 2010

June 7-11

and June 14-18, 2010

Two weeks of our incredibly popular summer camp will return with a new theme: What a Wonderful Wizarding World! Magic is all around us! This summer at camp we will explore the wonders of our world, and we will also work together to help make this world a better place.

Students chose to attend either week individually or both weeks for a full experience.

Hogwarts registration for new students for 2010 is now closed!

Please note: We are not a daycare facility and cannot provide you with a tax ID # for caring for your child. We are a church program and thus fall under the nonprofit category for day camps. We offer before care and after care as a convenience to make our program available to all children, but we are not a daycare facility.

Fees (changed this year)

$150 per week per child (grades 1-12)

Before Care (7-9 am) and/or After Care (3-5:30 pm) - $50 per week per child

    Discounts:
  • -$25 for active UCBR members per child per week
  • -$25 for full-time volunteers (3 days or more) per week
  • -$25 early registration discount per week (register before April 1)
  • -$25 multi-child family discount (for families with 3 or more children, take $25 off per week)

Please make payment through credit card (on the web) or check in person or by mail (no cash please).

At least half of the payment is due upon registration to hold your spot. Refunds are available until May 1.

Partial scholarships are available but must be applied for and determined by the scholarship committee.

This two week-long day camp is designed for students entering Grades 1st-12th The Houses will include all ages, but classes will be sorted according to age. Some youth will also have the responsibility of being House ELFS (assisting with the younger classes).

Both weeks will include:

  • Working together as a team with one of our four fabulous houses: Phoenixfire, Waverider, Windhorse, Stonedragon.
  • Work with your House to give service back to our community based on Hope, Peace, Love, and Faith.
  • Learn healthy competition through Quidditch, a Harry Potter Knowledge Bowl, and other cooperative games.
  • Make all your Magic Supplies, like your own personalized wand & magical hat. Please leave expensive wands and live animals at home.
  • Owl Post, Magical Activities Room, Room of Requirement and much much more!

All campers will receive a T-shirt & tote bag as part of their registration.

    HOGWARTS BASIC (June 7-11):
  • If you've never attended UCBR's Hogwarts before, this is the best place to start.
  • The week begins with a visit to Diagon Alley and the sorting ceremony.
  • Exciting Classes: Exciting Classes: Magical Creatures, Transfiguuration/Charms (art), Defense Against the Dark Arts (drama), Incantations (music), History of Magic (literature), Divination (storytelling) Arithmancy (math), Photomancy (photography), Spell Play (drama) Witch Stitchery (fiber arts) & Potions (science).
    HOGWARTS ADVANCED (June 14-18):
  • Open only to students who have attended the first week or have attended previous years. There will be no sorting ceremony, as everyone will already be sorted in advance, and there will be no Diagon Alley (though students attending just the second week will still have opportunity to make magical supplies).
  • This week will include some new and different class projects, special guests, and the conclusion of the House Cup competition.
    Age Groupings
  • 1-2 Grades: FROGS and TOADS - These kids will be split according to interest and attention span (as some kids this age need less structured programming than others).
  • 3-5 Grades: OWLs - Ordinary Wizarding Level
  • 6-8 Grades: NEWTs - Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Trials
  • 9-12th Grades: Advanced NEWTS - For high school youth who are not ready or able to take on a leadership role, we will have a new class just for them. Those who want to be part of our staff may apply to be ELFS - Enriching Life through Service & Fun. In the wizarding world, House Elves are not treated very well. In our Hogwarts, serving others is the highest level to which one can attain. ELFs are our junior counselors and are exempt from registration fees, but must apply for the job.
  • Professors, Guides, & Floating Ghosts: Volunteer Adult Staff - This camp is run mostly by volunteers, so if you would like to be a part of the experience, contact Headmistress Iris Imaginoria (Director of Religious Education Jessica Zebrine Gray) at Zebrinelady@cox.net or (225) 773-2376 or fill out an adult volunteer form.
  • Potter Tots: As a service to our staff, adult volunteers may enroll their preschool children in the special Potter Tots childcare program for the time period during which the parent will be present. Potter Tots must be registered with fees paid as a camper

GENERAL INFORMATION

Camp will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Before care (7-9 am) and after care (3-5:30 pm) are available for an additional fee.

Any campers may wear or bring their own robes or hats. Please leave expensive wands and live animals at home.

Reading the Harry Potter books is helpful but not necessary for a great camp experience.

For the best experience, it is recommended that campers attend the entire week.

Campers should bring their own lunches, though snacks will be provided. Please note any food allergies on registration.

Please note: this is a Unitarian Universalist church camp. We accept and teach diversity of race, religion, class, sexual orientation and gender identity at this church.
