Moving Forward with Great Expectations!
Becky Cureau, Communications Chair; Capital Growth Campaign
The resounding “yeas” heard at the recent Congregational Meeting was a signal moment in the life of our church, when members unanimously approved a resolution to pay off the mortgage! This action thus secures funding for the position of Assistant Minister and continuation of expansion of our professional ministry, the impact of which is already evidenced. It also accomplishes the first of the Organic Goals that grew out of Cottage meetings in the summer of 2009, and approved by the Congregation on February 26, 2012. The Great Expectations Capital Growth Campaign that evolved from the Organic Growth goals was approved by the Congregation on September 2, 2012. As the Campaign reaches two-thirds of the goal of $1,580,000 in pledges, we look forward to achieving the remaining goals:
A new Parking Lot with improved lighting, and enhancements to the meadow and the Peace Stones as a focal point for meditation and a respectful setting for memorial services;
Enhancements to our Sanctuary: a raised chancel, new and improved lighting, improved sound system, and reduction of window glare;
Expanded Staffing to increase our capacity for a growing membership and ministry, along with renovated and administrative offices and meeting spaces to more efficiently accommodate the functions of additional staff.
The immediate goal of the board-appointed GE Steering Committee is to move to the next step: planning for the long awaited parking lot. Vicky Smith has agreed to join the Great Expectations Steering Committee as coordinator of the planning and implementation of the building projects.
But we need the remaining funds through new pledges and payment on pledges already made in order to insure completion of all these critical projects. With abundant thanks to those who have already pledged and those who have extended their pledges.
If you have not already done so, consider being among new pledgers to take us to the “top” through as generous a pledge that you can make and which can be paid in three years.
We’ll celebrate the achievement of our first goal when we torch the mortgage and break into a joyous second-line Jazz Parade on Sunday, September 29. Come join the parade!
