Visiting Steward Job Description

Visiting Stewards serve the congregation as volunteers. They make personal connections and invite other congregants into conversations about what is most meaningful and important to them about the congregation. In this they present invitations and are gracious hosts – no matter where these conversations take place. They are communicators, providing and gathering information to bring back to the congregation. They are mail carriers, personally accepting and delivering financial commitments with discretion, protecting the privacy of the people they visit. Visiting Stewards follow-up diligently, in the best interest of the congregation as a whole. And they are personal and sincere thank-ers. Duties of Visiting Stewards:

  • Volunteer and commit to fulfilling the role
  • Attend a Visiting Stewards Orientation: Sept. 28-29
  • Have a full practice session after the Orientation, with another Visiting Steward
  • Accept four (4) names of people to contact and visit
  • Make a generous financial commitment before having a stewardship visit or asking anyone else to do so
  • Make appointments with the people to visit within the given timeframe
  • Have the conversations within the given timeframe
  • Communicate well with Annual Budget Drive coordinators about any challenges and when the calls and meetings have been completed
  • Accept another name if one on the original list in unavailable for the conversation
  • Send thank-yous to the people with whom you have conversed
  • Return materials and commitment forms to the coordinators
  • Celebrate success with the rest of the congregation

Timeline:

  • Visiting Stewards Orientations: Sept. 28-29
  • Attend Annual Budget Drive Launch: Sunday, Sept. 30
  • Timeframe for making calls: First Week of October
  • Timeframe for having conversations: Month of October
  • All materials and commitments turned in by this date: Sunday, November 4
  • Annual Budget Drive completion date: Celebration Sunday, November 4.
