Our Whole Lives

Our Whole Lives (OWL) Sexuality Education Program for 5th - 6th Graders. Although the curriculum is appropriate for Grades 4-6, the Unitarian Universalist Association recommends including no more than two grades in a class. We have chosen to include the 5th and 6th graders in the class in 2013. For those not familiar with the OWL program, it provides age-appropriate curricula to help young people gain the knowledge, life principles, and skills they need to express their sexuality in life-enhancing ways. Please visit the OWL pages of the UUA website at to learn more, or stop by the DRE’s office to preview curriculum materials.

At The Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge (UCBR), the OWL program for 5th and 6th graders is free, optional, co-ed, and held on Saturday mornings. It will be lead by two specially trained leaders, Dawn Haase-Davis and Mike Cavell. The OWL program is offered under the auspices of the UCBR Religious Education Council and program.

The UUA offers excellent OWL curricula for these other ages, which parents are welcome to peruse in the RE resource library. If there is sufficient demand, we may consider offering more of these courses in the future.
