Volunteer Opportunities within our Church

Would you like to be an Angel? ~  Helping others in their time of need is a vital part of this church.  One of the ways we do that is by assisting in a time of crisis for one of our members.  You choose the area in which you think you can best serve, such as transportation, bringing food, making phone calls, etc.  It is very rewarding and not very time consuming.  An Angel is expected to assist in about one out of three requests for your service.   Please stop by the Congregational Care Committee table in the Fellowship Hall any Sunday morning and complete an application to become an Angel.  We also need more volunteers to rotate being at the CCC table on Sunday where we prepare the cards that go out to our members to encourage and cheer them in times of illness or death in the family.  Talk to the person at the table or contact Joyce Gill at  joygill@msn.com.  Thank you.

We are looking for a few good sound techs: sound booth operation is a service of the Religious Services Council. Volunteers set-up and put away microphones, power-on the sound system, make minor adjustments (most are pre-set), oversee hearing devises and make CD recordings for Sunday services and special events held in the sanctuary. We are hoping to train a few people so that each volunteer would serve about one Sunday a month. If you are technically inclined and interested in providing this volunteer service to the church, please email your contact information (email is the primary method of communication for scheduling) to Michael Hebert, the sound booth volunteer wrangler, at michael_hebert@ bellsouth.net, who will call you to discuss. We will provide training on the use of the equipment, allow you to work alongside current volunteers to observe how things are done, and then support you as you do the first couple of services, to get you comfortable in providing this valuable service.. Please contact musicdir@unitarianchurchbr.com or michael_hebert@bellsouth.net .

The Congregational Care Committee is in need of new members. The work of the CCC is to provide a reception after a memorial services at the church as needed; prepare cards of cheer or condolence to be signed by congregants at a table in the Fellowship Hall, occasionally visit a member who is no longer able to attend services, coordinate with the Angels when needed and work closely with our ministers when a family is in crisis.  With many members the efforts are spread without burden to anyone while we all share in the knowledge that we are contributing much.

Short-notice individual volunteers community opportunities can be found at  htttp://www.handsonbatonrouge.org, United Way   http://www.cauaw.org , and Habitat for Humanity ReStore located on Airline Highway at Plank Road, see  http://www.habitatbr.org/restore.
